More than 40 per cent of the seafood market in the central Philippine city of San Juan is under the control of the Kajun Seafood and Bar Association, a trade group.
The market, which sells about 50 per cent seafood, is one of the biggest seafood export markets in the country.
Its founder and chief executive, Yuliya Kajuna, said it was important to showcase the country’s seafood exports and that the association was also planning to open a restaurant to cater to the Filipino market.
Kajun was the first Philippine company to establish a retail outlet in the world when it opened in 2011, and the group sells seafood to restaurants, bars and convenience stores.
Kabang said he was not concerned about the current situation as he felt there was a lot of competition for the seafood markets in Asia.
“I feel like we are on the right track.
There are a lot more people coming to this market than there were in the past, which makes the market more vibrant,” he said.
